Born in 2017 under the initiative of Mirte Boot, Marlene Straub, and Leo B. Wiedemann, a couple of students decided to build a unique party dedicated to transparent and democratic decision-making at the University of Amsterdam.

Inter aims to give every student the chance to make their voice heard. Inter first ran for the Law Faculty student council elections. When Inter was born, the founders had an idea for a new kind of student democracy - a democracy that closes the gap between decision-makers and the student community; which is open, transparent, and fully democratic; and which better represents the interests of interdisciplinary, international students.
